Linda “Lena” Myers was born in Kingston, Jamaica the only daughter of Lillian Morrison and Alexander Myers. Her father passed away when she was only six years old. She was protected and doted upon by her six brothers and the memory of a seventh brother. She remained as the last surviving sibling of Frederick Morrison, Ivanhoe Morrison, Neville Morrison, Robert Morrison, George Myers and Barrington Myers.
She was the first of her siblings to attend university. She declined an offer to study in England and decided to attend Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) in Montreal. Along the study path she met Anthony B. Hall and whilst completing her master’s degree at Harvard University Radcliffe College, they married in Toronto. She had a keen interest in higher education and went on to earn 13 post graduate certificates and degrees. After they both completed post-graduate degrees, they returned to Jamaica and had two children.
She enjoyed a career in government service in Jamaica at the Jamaica Industrial Development Corporation (JIDC) and in the Jamaica Foreign Service as Deputy Counsel General in Toronto. She also excelled in merchant banking, stock market development and trading, financial reporting, and teaching. She taught for many years at the College of Arts Sciences and Technology (CAST) now the University of Technology in Kingston.
She had a progressive migration back to Canada in 1977-1978 and lived in Toronto then Montreal. Upon her return to Canada, she had a short stint teaching at Concordia University then went into the insurance business until retirement. She also developed an import-export business to and from Jamaica. Despite short forays to Florida to live with her son, Anthony James Hall, and Jamaica, she decided to return to Montreal to be close to her daughter Margaret Ann Hall who also chose to return to Montreal from Jamaica.
She is predeceased by Margaret in 2015, but they will be buried together at Cimetiere Notre-Dame-Des-Neiges Section IM Lot 02513. She is survived by her son, and his wife, Lanetta Bronte-Hall, grandchildren Jason Christopher Hall, Monifa Asha Kai Hall, Anya Tari Kamil Hall, Nu’Man Amanze Orr Hall, and Jahaziel Samuel Hall. Step-grandchildren Mone Antoinette Holder and Kyla Arianna Thorpe.
She is also survived by hundreds of family members in the UK, Canada, the USA, Trinidad, and Jamaica. She will be remembered fondly as the family recorder and historian who would connect members across the world. Her many past co-workers, students and colleagues may take peace in knowing that her life will be well remembered.
